Catie in Meowmeowland from ARTillery and Blowfish Studios is a colorful and charming point and click adventure game based on Alice in Wonderland. Instead of following a white rabbit, the titular character follows a white cat down a hole on the ground, which leads Catie into Meowmeowland, an interesting new take on the story of Alice in Wonderland we all know and love, with some interesting twists along the way. Given the change from Wonderland to Meowmeowland, that means that there are going to be a lot of cats in this adventure!
You’ll explore a trippy storybook land, walking through surreal spots that will certainly remind you of the Alice in Wonderland classic story, but with a feline twist along the way. Instead of the giant caterpillar from the books, you’ll find a giant cat that uses an extremely long pipe and wears a gold watch. Catie will tell this cat that she followed a smaller white cat down a rabbit hole and ended up here and now needs to find a way home. His solution is simple: if she gets to the tower, she’ll be able to leave Meowmeowland! Getting to the tower is going to be the tricky part of the equation.
The game will show you the basics by way of a short tutorial segment once you land in Meowmeowland. There will be a small gap that Catie won’t be able to jump over, so you have to find a way to solve this puzzle. The game will tell you to move the cursor on the screen – which is done with the left analog stick, the right analog stick, or the D-Pad so that you can then interact with a pink square character on the other side of the gap, who is taking a nap. He will drop a trumpet you can then place on a contraption next to him so that you can use the sound made from the trumpet to wake him up. Once he’s awake, click on him, and he’ll gladly jump into the gap so that you can go over him!
Thanks to this, you’ll learn that for your time with Catie in Meowmeowland, you’re going to have to find everything you can interact with on a screen and then find the right sequence of interactions that will lead you to the final solution. Find that solution, and you’ll be able to move on to the next colorfully detailed location. Something you must always remember is that you can also click on Catie to progress through a puzzle, and you sometimes need to click on other characters and objects multiple times before reaching the solution. You might also have to drag an item onto Catie to go to a new area.
Catie in Meowmeowland is a colorful and charming point and click adventure game that takes the story of Alice in Wonderland for a new spin, with a focus on the feline side of the equation. It’s a short experience you can probably complete in around 3-4 hours, depending on your experience with adventure games. Catie in Meowmeowland is out on Nintendo Switch with a $14.99 asking price.
