We’ll be working on a review for Rise of the Third Power, so I got in touch with Stegosoft Games to talk a bit about this release. Come check it out!
PS4Blog: Hi! Good to have you back with us at PS4Blog.net. How’s everyone doing?
We’re doing well. Thanks for having us back! It has been a busy couple of years for us at Stegosoft as we’ve worked on finishing Rise of the Third Power. I was able to make the leap last year and quit my day job to start doing game dev full-time, and the rate at which we’ve grown as game developers since then is really amazing!
PS4B: Rise of the Third Power is launching next month on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. What can you tell us about this game?
I can tell you that it turned out great, and everyone should play it! The game takes place in a world on the brink of war, with the leaders of major nations in denial of it, and the protagonist and his band of resistance fighters are the only ones that can stop it. The characters are all wonderfully flawed, and you get to experience some heartfelt and meaningful moments as you watch them grow throughout the game. The dialogue strikes a good balance between whimsy and the seriousness of the events taking place, which makes for a really enjoyable experience. The gameplay is fun, and I think it hits all of the nostalgia notes our fans are going to be looking for.
PS4B: We had a lot of fun with Ara Fell: Enhanced Edition and did want to ask how the overall battle system for Rise of the Third Power operates in comparison to Ara Fell.
The battle system is turn-based like Ara Fell’s, but the way it plays out is totally different. You fight with your whole party of 8, but with only 3 characters active in battle at a time, and you swap characters in and out of the fray. Each character has its own strengths and weaknesses, and you have to adapt your strategy to the current situation and use clever combos to achieve victory. It’s really fun!
PS4B: How are things looking for a potential physical release on Nintendo Switch and PS4 for not only Rise of the Third Power but also Ara Fell: Enhanced Edition?
I want a physical edition, too! I’d love to have a physical copy with some awesome box art to put on our shelf. And I’d love to have an Ara Fell map to hang on my wall! We can’t reveal our plans on this front, but I’ll say that we’ve always been interested in a physical release and have been working towards it. There’s something about having the game in hand that seems like it’s an important milestone in my journey as a game developer.
PS4B: And now it’s time for us to go. Is there anything else you’d like to add?
We poured our hearts and souls into this one, and we think it shows! We hope everyone enjoys the result of our efforts, and we’re grateful for all of the people that helped us get to this point.
