Sam and Max: Beyond Time and Space Remastered is ready for you to enjoy on Nintendo Switch. This is the second season of the Sam and Max adventure game revival series that we got to take for a spin on the Nintendo Wii after its episodic release on PC. The Nintendo Wii version included all five episodes on the disc, but the PlayStation 3 version that was released at a later date returned to the episodic format on PSN. Now, thanks to the work of Skunkape Games, a small indie team that includes some former members of Telltale Games are giving us a revamped and remastered version to enjoy on Nintendo’s console.

The game’s story takes place a year after the events from Sam and Max Save the World Remastered. This time around, you’ll work alongside Sam and Max – a.k.a. the Freelance Police – as they start their adventure by facing off against none other than Santa! There’s something very wrong with Santa, and you must find a way to enter his office and stop the madness before Christmas is ruined! Obviously, there’s more to this than I can tell you here, but I don’t want to spoil the start of your journey! I will mention that the next episode in this season completely switches things around by having the pair travel to Easter Island, where a new mystery awaits! And then there’s going to be zombies. And after that? More surprises!

There are two options for playing Sam and Max: Beyond Time and Space. You can use the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con, or you can use the console’s touchscreen when playing in Tabletop or Portable Mode, or if you’re enjoying this colorful and bizarre experience on a Nintendo Switch Lite. If you do end up using the console’s touchscreen, then you’ll just have to point at stuff and tap away to get a closer look, moving around each area by clicking on where you want to get to, and using items with a tap and a click, a click, and a tap.

If you’re going to use the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con, then you’ll move with the left analog stick and run with the ZL button. The L button will show you all of the hotspots you can interact with, most of which will give you a wacky remark from Sam, Max, or both! Press the A button when close to a character or object to interact with it. If you find an item you can put to good use, it will be added to your inventory, which you can review by pressing the X button. Once you’re ready to solve a puzzle by using the right item at the right time, select an object with the right analog stick and use it with the A button.

As was the case for the prequel Save and Max Save the World, Sam and Max: Beyond Time and Space on the Nintendo Switch has the word Remastered right there in its name. What this means is that you’re getting the definitive version for Sam and Max: Beyond Time and Space. It’s been almost 12 years since the Nintendo Switch release of this particular season, so a lot of hard-word has gone into revamping the game, which is why it now features HD graphics, better lighting and lip-syncing for the voice acting, remastered audio, and even eight new musical tracks with live jazz musicians!

Sam and Max: Beyond Time and Space Remastered includes some accessibility options to make it possible for more gamers to enjoy its wacky hijinks. You can decide if completing mini-games is required or if you can bypass them. There’s the option of activating subtitles and selecting if they’ll have a background or not, and deciding if there should be photosensitive visual effects in the game or not. You can also change the hint level so that there are no hints provided at all or how frequently you’d like to get a hint about the next step on your journey.

If you’re a fan of point and click adventure games, then you must check out Sam and Max: Beyond Time and Space Remastered. The trademark humor of Sam and Max is something that needs to be experienced in its new full HD glory, with the revamped audio as a nice bonus. Sure, it’s of the old-school “use this item everywhere until something sticks” adventure game variety, but if you’re ever stuck, you can bump how many hints you get for what needs to be done. Or, you know, if you’re really desperate, use a guide? Sam and Max: Beyond Time and Space Remastered is out on Nintendo Switch with a $19.99 price, and it’s one you should definitely add to your collection!
