Once you’re done reading today’s article, we want to hear: which were your best games played this year? It doesn’t matter what console you played them on… we want to know!
My PlayStation Game of the Year: Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart (PlayStation 5)

My history with PlayStation goes back to its early days, and one of my favorite franchises is Ratchet & Clank. So when Rift Apart was announced for PlayStation 5, I was definitely excited about it. Thankfully, when it arrived, it didn’t disappoint, offering a strong selection of weapons, well-designed worlds to explore, dimensional hopping and clever puzzle-solving, one of the franchise’s best stories, and a brand new playable Lombax! This is Ratchet & Clank firing on all cylinders. If you have a PlayStation 5 and haven’t played this one, you are missing out on one of the best games on the console!
Honorable Mention: Judgment (PlayStation 5)
I really haven’t played many Yakuza titles, but something about a spin-off of sorts like Judgment seemed super interesting. It’s a detective game set in the same universe but without the extra baggage. What I got was one of the best whodunnit stories I have played in a while!
I remember that one point I was convinced I was near the end one night and started to carry on non-stop, but I had to tap out at 3 a.m. It turned out I ended up playing for another four hours on the next day before the credits rolled! These marathon sessions are unheard of for me, but the story was so good, I just wanted to see where it would all end. The city it’s set on is full of life with lots of oddball stuff to do. Playing Lost Judgment on PlayStation 5 is on my to-do list for 2022!
Honorable Mention: Hot Wheels Unleashed (PlayStation 5)
HOT WHEELS UNLEASHED turned out to be my one of my favorite racing games of the year. In the past, games using the Hot Wheel’s license have been mediocre to bad, to say the least. That changed with HOT WHEELS UNLEASHED since the devs made a great arcade racing game, focusing on speed and boosting while keeping things authentic to the look and feel of the source material. The tracks look like Hot Wheels tracks, with authentic pieces. The cars themselves are amazing, each one looking gorgeous, featuring different materials for their design. This was my surprise of the year as I didn’t see it coming at all!
Honorable Mention: Forza Horizon 5 (Xbox Series X)
I know that we mostly focus on PlayStation and Nintendo Switch games, but here’s a quick confession: I bought an Xbox Series X this year… because of Gamepass. This was my first entry into the Xbox ecosystem, and I’m having a lot of fun! As a big fan of arcade racing games, I was excited about the launch of Forza Horizon 5. I’ve been zipping all over Mexico completing races and challenges on the huge map. Forza Horizon 5 does such a great job in creating an excellent open-world racer that is a must-play on the console.
That’s it for me!
