We’ll be working on a review for Psychonauts 2, so I got in touch with Michael Tucker to talk a bit about the game and its development. Come check it out!
PS4Blog: Hi Michael! Good to have you with us today. Can you please help us get this started by introducing yourself to our readers?
Hi! My name’s Michael Tucker, and I’m a producer on Psychonauts 2.
PS4B: And on that note, it’s time to talk about Psychonauts 2 on PS4! How would you bring our readers up to speed on this highly anticipated sequel?
The long of it: Psychonauts 2 is a 3D platformer in which players take control of Razputin Aquato, a 10-year-old psychic acrobat who’s always wanted to join the international psychic spy organization, the Psychonauts. The game takes place on Raz’s first day of the job as a Psychonaut, and to tell you anything else would be a spoiler!
Everything you need to know to get started on Psychonauts 2 is summarized in this handy video which plays as soon as you boot up the game.
That’s a pretty big question, but I suppose the best answer would be that it’s changed as much as any game does over the course of a five-plus year development. The Microsoft acquisition allowed us to keep things that were at risk of being cut, such as bosses and gave the level teams enough time to make each of their levels as good as they could possibly be. We’re very fortunate that enough factors aligned at the right times to help the shipping game be the best possible version of Psychonauts 2.
PS4B: Any chance we get a Collector’s Edition boxed set for Psychonauts 2 on PS4? If not, then a Nintendo Switch port will do.
Hahaha, there are plans to speak of at this time on either of those fronts, but maybe one day in the future, there’ll be more to say. It’s always helpful to know people’s interest in these sorts of things!
PS4B: And now it’s time for us to go. Would you like to add anything else before we end this one?
I’d like to send a super mega appreciation shout out to the backers of Psychonauts 2, who are the primary reason the game is able to exist today. It has been a very long, weird journey getting this game made, and hopefully, it is a weird, impeccably paced journey for the players!
