Sequel Leisure Suit Larry – Wet Dreams Dry Twice from CrazyBunch and Assemble Entertainment is ready for you on PS4. Check our Leisure Suit Larry – Wet Dreams Dry Twice review!
Leisure Suit Larry: Wet Dreams Dry Twice invites players to slip back into the leather pants of self-titled heartthrob and try-hard ladies man Larry Laffer as he sets out to find his true love, the divinely delightful Faith.
Larry Laffer is back for a new adventure that occurs right after the events of Leisure Suit Larry: Wet Dreams Don’t Dry. Larry is stuck in Cancúm and must marry the chief’s daughter while he’s still thinking about Faith – even though she’s at an unknown location. Larry will eventually find her and embark on a quest to conquer her heart back, even though the path won’t be easy. Larry isn’t alone on his quest because he’s joined by Pi, his trusty mobile phone. Pi is an artificial intelligence, and she’ll be there to guide Larry on his quest. Are you ready for this new adventure from Assemble Entertainment and CrazyBunch?
In the events of the previous game, Larry was sent 30 years into the future, and the game actually takes place in the present. Larry still has his 1980’s mentality, which he is sometimes criticized about by the other characters. If you haven’t played the previous game, fear not because the first character you meet right at the beginning explains all the backstory that led to the current situation.
Leisure Suit Larry is a point and click in which you will be visiting many places and solving light puzzles. You’ll begin in Cancúm and will explore many different and very detailed environments over the course of the lengthy game. You can move on the scenes with the left analog stick and will be able to collect items of interest, some of which can be combined together to create new items that will aid you in solving puzzles.
In the controls department, it is apparent that this game was taken from the PC and ported to consoles. The control scheme definitively hasn’t been fully optimized for a console experience. For instance, the game doesn’t support the D-pad for selecting choices and only the left analog stick. The worst aspect is how the inventory management and item merging has been done. I also noticed that even moving to the points of interest is harder than it should have been since it requires pressing in both analogs (L3 + R3), while some of the shoulder buttons are not used.
Playing a Leisure Suit Larry game is a synonym with over-sexualization since Larry is a product of its time, taken three decades into the future, which means for you, its humor is going to be a bit hit or miss. I thought that most of the jokes were forced and didn’t ring with me and where I am currently in my life. I do recognize that this game is clearly aimed at fans of the old-school entries in the Leisure Suit Larry series – as well as those that have played the prequel – so your mileage may vary.
As for the art style, this game is gorgeous. The animations are well done and are very fluid. Being set in the Larry universe and still on the subject of the over-sexualization, you can expect to see male organ shapes in nearly every location of the game, as well as some fan service from the ladies you’ll meet. The voice acting was great and felt exaggerated, like in a cartoon TV show, which is what you’d expect from a game like this one.
In the trophies department, there are ten Bronze, six Silver, and seven Gold trophies on your way to a new shiny Platinum for Leisure Suit Larry – Wet Dreams Dry Twice. Some are awarded as you progress through the campaign, and others will be given to you when you complete specific actions. There are quite a few that are missable, so just in case, you can rely on this trophy guide to help you. You’ll have to play the game from start to finish at least twice to get all trophies out of the way, so be ready!
Leisure Suit Larry – Wet Dreams Dry Twice is a game that will definitively be one you’ll like a lot or won’t like at all. Personally, the confusing controls and over-sexualized humor didn’t click with me. I, however, liked the amazing art style and exploring the different locations the game has to offer. If you’re looking at this game, you probably already have an idea of what you’re getting yourself into, so I’m sure you’ll find much to love about it.
