[PS4Blog.net Interview] MD Games On POSTAL Redux

by EdEN, Owner

We’ll be working on a review for POSTAL Redux, so I got in touch with MD Games to talk a bit about the game. Come check it out!

PS4Blog: Hi! Thank you for joining us today. Could you please help us get started by telling our readers a bit about yourself and your work?

Hi there… and sure! We’re MD Games, a Polish porting company established to bring indies to new platforms, mainly from PC to consoles. We have a publisher status on Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo platforms, including PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series systems. However, our first project was quite an old school one! We brought Postal REDUX to the Nintendo Switch last year, and now the PS4 version is just around the corner. We’re really proud that we could team up with the Running with Scissors guys and take care of their gem on consoles.

PS4B: On that note, Postal REDUX is on its way to the PlayStation 4. What can you tell us about this project?

Postal REDUX marks the franchise’s first appearance on the Sony console. Overall those years Dude hasn’t arrived on that platform, so it’s quite important for players who don’t play on PC for some reasons. Postal is a classic now, so we consider it not only as getting to the new audience. It’s a reminder of what some of us played over two decades ago.

PS4B: How long did it take to develop this PlayStation version of the game? Were there any particular hurdles or challenges you had to overcome?

We secured rights to the port in April 2020, so the pure development process was fast and smooth, we’ve done it within a year with a small team. It wasn’t very challenging, to be honest. we’ve worked on the Postal REDUX source code, a PC game from 2016 – a high definition remake of the classic which was rewritten from the programmers end by Running with Scissors, so we didn’t have to fight with the 20-years old code or something like that. There is no cool story here, since Running with Scissors provided some really good code when it comes to the quality or structure.

PS4B: Are there any differences between this version and the Steam version of Postal REDUX?

The PlayStation 4 version is a single-player experience, playable also on PS5. I guess that’s it’s the biggest difference. We haven’t changed the source code or assets, so we worked on adapting things to Sony platforms.

PS4B: And that’s all the time we have for today. Is there something else you’d like to add before we go?

Hmn, have fun, I guess! Postal REDUX is a great time machine, it can remind you how games looked then. And what was considered extremely violent in the late 1990′. This is really funny, if you compare cartoonish Postal to new AAA titles.
