Luna The Shadow Dust from Lantern Studio and Coconut Island Games is a gorgeous, charming, and fun point and click adventure game that pays homage to the old-school classics while streamlining things a bit. You won’t be collecting items, adding them to your inventory so that you can use them to solve puzzles. What you will be doing is switching between two characters that will need to work together to explore the tower that materializes in front of the boy during the starting tutorial.
After a short intro sequence, you will take control of the boy, moving with the left analog stick, or taking short steps with the D-Pad. You will interact with objects and characters by using the A button. You can hold the ZL button and use the left analog stick to switch between the objects you want to select – at least between those that are within your proximity. The last button to keep in mind is the ZR button, which will allow you to switch between characters. The second character you’ll be controlling is a dog-like creature that I’ll refer to as “the pet.”
When you start your journey, you’ll only be controlling the boy as he slowly walks through the first set of rooms, but you’ll soon find a companion to young you: a round, fluffy dog-type creature. While the boy can activate levers and switches, or push heavy objects to help you solve puzzles, the pet is considerably smaller – and rounder! – which allows it to go through small spaces. The pet also has an extra ability that is fun to use: it can turn into a shadow and interact with other shadows in the room! This will be used a handful of times in Lina The Shadow Dust and makes for a fun way to mix things up.
