We’ll be working on a review for Memoranda, so I got in touch with Carbon Fire Studio to talk a bit about the game. Come check it out!
PS4Blog: Hi! Thank you for taking the time to do this interview. How are you doing?
Hello Antonio, and thank you for giving us this opportunity. On a personal level, we are grateful to be safe and sound and, most importantly, surrounded by the love of our family and friends. And we sincerely wish all the same to everyone who reads this.
On a professional level, we ambition to develop a sustainable game publishing and development business out of Luxembourg, Europe. Coming from AAA, we are naturally aware of the challenges that such a small indie company from a country that is nowhere on the gaming maps (yet) will face. But we are hopeful that our willingness to continually learn and develop, and also the support of the community and our partners, will slowly but surely help us get there.
PS4B: On that note, after a Nintendo Switch release, Memoranda is out on PlayStation 4. What can you tell us about this game?
Yes! And we are very happy with this release because it’s our first game on a PlayStation system. Memoranda is a point and click adventure game with magic realism elements that tells the story of a young woman who gradually realizes that she is forgetting her own name. The story is inspired by Haruki Murakami’s short stories that depict surreal worlds full of lonely characters.
Memoranda was developed by BitByterz and Digital Dragon Games. Carbon Fire Publishing did the consoles, port, and publishing. The cool thing with PlayStation is that the game initially ported onto PS4 can also be played on PS5.
PS4B: Are there any differences between the Nintendo Switch and the PS4 versions of Memoranda?
So, you can play with the touch screen on the Nintendo Switch while being in handheld mode. On PlayStation 4, you can only play the game with the controller like you would do when the Nintendo Switch console is in Docked Mode.
That being said, the game content and visuals remain identical across consoles with the unique and beautiful hand-drawn full-HD 2D graphics. And of course, you have trophies on the PS4 version, while there’s no such things on the Switch!
PS4B: I enjoyed my time with Linn: Path of Orchards on Nintendo Switch, and now I hear the game is on its way to the PlayStation 4! Do you have an estimate on when the game will be launching on Sony’s console?
Sure! Now that we have harnessed the Playstation 4 with Memoranda, we plan to release every past and future games on this system. The game should be released in Q1 2021. We will communicate the precise date soon.
PS4B: And now it’s time for us to end this one. Is there something else you’d like to say?
Well, we are working on our next release based on a haunting mobile point-and-click adventure game. The release is planned for Q3. Thanks to the experience gathered thus far, we are now able to release our games on the three consoles simultaneously. In parallel, we are fostering and developing our portfolio of publishing services. In that respect, we are humbled and proud to see indie companies reaching out to us to get their games published!
