There’s a new physical publisher on Nintendo Switch, so I got in touch with JP to talk a bit about Premium Edition Games. Come check it out!
PS4Blog: Hi! Thank you for joining us today. Could you please help us get started by telling our readers a bit about yourself and your work?
Hi Antonio! First off, thank you so much for this opportunity to share a little bit about ourselves! My name is JP, and I am a co-founder of Premium Edition Games, a Nintendo Switch physical publisher. My role in the company is multi-faceted. Besides being co-founder, I’m also that guy posting a million tweets and other social media posts a day. I work with the developers to ensure their needs are met and just make sure the business is running as smoothly as possible!
In my free time (exactly 1 minute a day at this point, haha), I also run JP’S SWITCHMANIA, a Nintendo Switch site/channel, as well as co-host the weekly Switchmania Playcast series. If you spend some time on my Twitter or visit my website, you’ll see how much I love the Switch. At some point, I thought, “what could be the only thing better than sharing news and supporting the Nintendo Switch? Making the physical games themselves!
PS4B: On that note, let’s talk a bit about Premium Edition Games. Your turn!
As you may have seen from our Direct – which you can check below – we are a Nintendo Switch focused physical publisher ready to bring amazing (and previously digital-only) games… physically! I’ve partnered with my friend, author, and fellow co-host of the Switchmania Playcast, Jeffrey Wittenhagen. This was an idea we’ve been talking about for a while now and felt the time was just right. Plus, with our good friend Barry on the team, what better time than now?
It’s honestly amazing to be at the starting line with our first game, Super Blood Hockey from Loren Lemcke and Digerati, up for pre-order. Additionally, we also announced two upcoming games: PigenDev Collection from PigeonDev and Sometimes You as well as A Robot Named Fight from Matt Bitner and Hitcents. Fun fact: The PigeonDev Collection will be the first time Awesome Pea, Awesome Pea 2, Bucket Knight, and Explosive Jake will be offered as one collection on one cart!
Outside of doing our best to support developers and digital publishers, we want to do right by the community. Having been a founding member of #SwitchCorps and a hardcore (maybe obsessive?) Switch physical collector, I know what’s expected of a publisher. That’s why I feel confident we will be able to make quality titles packaged with awesome goodies for each of our releases!
PS4B: Now, for the big question… what’s in the box? What will be included for each physical release from Premium Edition Games?
Good question! So to start, not every release of ours will have a Premium Deluxe Edition. With that said, let’s see what you’ll get:
Premium Edition
Nintendo Switch Physical Case and Game
Double-Sided Insert
Full-Color Manual
A “Special” Trading Card (you’ll have to see what it’s all about)
A Logo Sticker
Full-Color Glossy Slipcover*
*Subject to first printing (if demand warrants a reprint, we would do it)
Premium Deluxe Edition
Nintendo Switch Physical Case and Game
Double-Sided Insert
Full-Color Manual
A “Special” Numbered Trading Card (you’ll have to see what it’s all about)
A Logo Sticker
Full-Color Glossy Slipcover
Official Steelbook
NES-Style Box
CD Soundtrack
Amazing Enamel Pin
Strategy Guide (Pocket-Sized like the classic Famicom guides of yesteryear)
Our aim is to make each release consistent so that our customers know what to expect, as well as to have them line up nicely on their shelves!
PS4B: You currently have Super Blood Hockey available for pre-order as a Premium Edition, and have announced the Pigeon Dev Games Collection will be available in Winter 2020, with A Robot Named Fight! set for a Summer 2021 release. That does make me wonder if you’re currently working on other titles that will be revealed soon and will be going up for sale between those three already slotted releases.
To answer your question, absolutely! One of the focuses we have is to slow-roll our releases. As Jeffrey and I both work full-time, it would be impossible for us to just push out release after release. Plus, that’s not what we want Premium Edition Games to be about. Instead, we want each release to feel special.
By spacing out our titles, it gives each game proper respect and time in the spotlight. Plus, while A Robot Named Fight! may have been the third announcement, it’s currently planned for Summer 2021.
We are definitely going to have some releases before then, and what better way to announce the next wave of games than with a Direct! That’s right! We plan to do a Direct whenever we have the next batch of titles to announce. It’s going to be a fun time for sure!
PS4B: And that’s all the time we have for today. Is there something else you’d like to add before we go?
I just wanted to say THANK YOU again for taking the time to interview us. You’re the first person to reach out, so it feels amazing to be doing my first official interview representing Premium Edition Games! Of course, I’ll also encourage all your readers to head on over to our website and secure your pre-order of Super Blood Hockey. Pre-orders will remain open until Tuesday, September 22nd, at 11:59 PM ET. While we wanted to offer a long window to pre-order, we do want to make sure no one misses out!
Additionally, please follow us on social media and sign-up for our newsletter right on the website! This way you’ll never miss an announcement, status update, or a friendly hello in your inbox!
Finally, I did mention that Jeffrey was an author, right? Jeffrey and I love the Switch so much that before we announced our company, we actually started a book series called The Switch Collector. Volume One is available to purchase right now at Switchopedia, and it’s going to chronicle all the Switch releases in date/year order. Plus, we talk about digital-only games worth checking out, and so much more!
Thank you again for this opportunity, as well as to everyone for checking out our new company! Let’s get physical… with the Nintendo Switch!
