[PS4Blog.net Interview] Paul Jenkins On Fairy Quest 3

by EdEN, Owner

Fairy Quest is back with a new Kickstarter campaign to fund the third volume in the series, so I got in touch with Paul Jenkins to talk a bit about this long-anticipated project. Come check it out!

PS4Blog: Hi Paul! Been a while, huh? How are you today?

Hi Antonio, it is good to be back with Fairy Quest. It has been a while, and so much has happened since we were last here. And yet, I think the work remains as timely as it ever was… and perhaps a beacon of happiness in difficult times.

PS4B: On that note, let’s talk about Fairy Quest #3! Last time we talked, you were busy with Fiction Squad, the Fairy Quest spin-off, and now here you are with the latest part of the main series. What can you tell us about the new book?

First of all, this is part 3 of 4 of the Fairy Quest saga. That is why we are not printing a slipcase yet – the eventual slipcase will contain four books. To this point, we have seen how Red and Mister Woof have been trying to escape tyranny in the form of the Think Police.

In this issue, they must enter Wonderland, which has become a forbidden and anarchic territory, in order to get to the very edge of the children’s realm. They are changing… coming real flesh and blood as the world begins to forget their story. And as they emerge into different realms, they will suddenly realize they are stories becoming self-aware.

PS4B: Thanks to the Kickstarter also helping to cover the cost of reprinting the first two volumes, Ale Garza is doing special covers for each of the three books, while you have Kevin Eastman doing a special edition cover for book 1, Billy Tucci on a cover for book 2, a variant cover from Mike Bowden on book 3, along with the recently announced Jill Thompson exclusive cover for book 3. Any other surprises in store for this Kickstarter campaign?

Yes! There is one more MAJOR announcement that we want to do for the campaign. I think people are going to absolutely flip out when they see who we have lined up. But in addition, we are going to make this campaign chock full of extras, stretch goals, free gifts, and other stuff.

PS4B: You mentioned that you’ll be signing the first 100 books that backers pledged for in the now gone early bird tier. Any chance that there will be an option for backers to add a signed bookplate to their pledge for an extra cost, as was the case for Fiction Squad?

Well, I do want to add this type of thing, but I am a little cautious. I know that with my company, META, doing fulfillment, we will keep everything completely in-house. I want to make sure we do the best campaign possible. It’s vitally important that no one ever touches this book apart from the people associated with META and me. During the Fiction Squad campaign, I am told a number of backers had trouble with our fulfillment partners at Boom not getting their stuff to them, so I am wary.

PS4B: And now it’s time for us to go. Is there something else you’d like to say?

I am so happy to bring this book back. It deserves to be completed. As I said above, no one our group and I will do any of the production or fulfillment. I hope this will be the absolute best campaign anyone has seen.
