[PS4Blog.net Interview] Stegosoft Games On Ara Fell: Enhanced Edition

by EdEN, Owner

We’ll be working on a review for Ara Fell: Enhanced Edition, so I got in touch with Stegosoft Games to talk about the game. Come check it out!

PS4Blog: Good afternoon! Welcome to PS4Blog.net. Could you help us get started by telling our readers a bit about yourself and your work?

We’re a small indie studio that has been working together for several years, consisting of a designer, a programmer, and an artist. We kinda lucked out because we’re all pretty like-minded when it comes to what games and gaming experiences we want to create. We’ve always wanted to pay homage to the classic RPGs we grew up with, and try our best to further the genre. But we’re also sitting on a handful of half-finished projects that span a wide variety of genres.

PS4B: On that note, Ara Fell is out this week on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. How would you describe this game to someone who’s never heard about it?

It’s a throwback to the SNES era of JRPGs, with modern elements. It features a girl in the prime of her life, seeking to explore and adventure, who suddenly has the fate of the world put on her shoulders. If you like exploring, turn-based combat, and snarky dialogue, this game is for you.

PS4B: The version we’re getting on Nintendo Switch and PS4 is actually Ara Fell: Enhanced Edition, so I was wondering what makes it the Enhanced Edition.

Lots! The original version of Ara Fell was built with RPG Maker 2003, and we were limited by that engine in what we could do. Over the last two years, we’ve built a whole new engine in Unity and created the game we always wanted Ara Fell to be. It’s the same story, characters, and dialogue that made the original great. But we’ve added subtle particle effects to bring the world to life, expanded the world, added additional side quests, built a combat system we’re proud of, added gathering and crafting, added specialization classes, lots more depth, and a bunch of other fun stuff. We’re really excited to see what everyone thinks of it.

PS4B: Are you currently working on any new projects?

Yep – Rise of the Third Power! We’ve been working on this one for a few years, and it uses the same underlying engine that we built for the new Ara Fell. It’s an RPG about a small resistance group trying to prevent the start of a great war. We don’t want to take away from the excitement of the Ara Fell release, but we think this new game shows how much we’ve grown as game designers. The story, characters, and overall message of the game are just fantastic. We really think this one will mint our name in the RPG scene.

PS4B: And that’s all the time we have for today. Would you like to add anything else before we go?

Thanks for taking the time to interview us, and we really hope everyone enjoys Ara Fell!
