[PS4Blog.net Interview] Brian Wilson On Where the Bees Make Honey

by EdEN, Owner

We’re working on a review for Where the Bees Make Honey on Nintendo Switch, so I got in touch with Brian Wilson to talk a bit about the game. Come check it out!

PS4Blog: Good morning! Thank you for joining us. Could you please help us get started by telling our readers a bit about yourself and your work?

Thanks for having me! My name is Brian Wilson, and I am an independent video game developer based out of Western Pennsylvania. My most recently released game, Where the Bees Make Honey, launched on Xbox One, PS4, and PC at the end of March.

PS4B: On that note, Where the Bees Make Honey is ready to go on Nintendo Switch. How would you describe the game to someone who’s never heard about it?

Where the Bees Make Honey is a narrative-based puzzle adventure in which you’ll relive main character Sunny’s childhood as she struggles to find her purpose in adulthood. Uncover the secrets of her past to guide her to a prosperous future!

PS4B: How long did it take to port the game to Nintendo’s console? Were there any particular hurdles or challenges you had to overcome?

My publisher Whitethorn Digital carried most of the weight on this part, and I’m super thankful to the team. We took the Summer to port the game to Switch with a Fall launch window. We knew getting the game to run properly on Switch was going to be a challenge – particularly optimizing it for performance while still maintaining the artistic vision of the game. On my end, a lot of time can be saved if the game is already optimized going into the porting process. There are far more technically demanding games on the console, so we knew it was possible.

PS4B: Are there any differences between the Nintendo Switch version and the PlayStation 4 version of the game?

Our goal was to match the Nintendo Switch version as closely as possible to the other versions. There are no major differences, but a few small tweaks here and there, as each console has its own quirks in terms of color formats and video codecs.

PS4B: With Where the Bees Make Honey out on Nintendo Switch, are you now working on other games you could bring to PS4 or Switch?

Yes! After Where the Bees Make Honey released at the end of March, I was really burnt-out and didn’t want to touch a computer for awhile. After months of being outside this Summer, I started development on my next game. I have no official announcement yet, but I’m excited to share more when I can.

PS4B: And that’s all the time we have for today. Is there something else you’d like to add before we go?

Where the Bees Make Honey is releasing on the Nintendo Switch on October 17th with a 30% launch discount. The game will include a free bonus puzzle level, which will be patched into the PS4, Xbox One, and PC versions at the same time.
