[PS4Blog.net Interiew] Wide Right Games On Freedom Finger | PS4Blog.net
We’re working on a review for Freedom Finger, so I got in touch with Wide Right Games to talk a bit about this Nintendo Switch game. Come check it out!
PS4Blog: Good morning! Thank you for joining us today. Could you help us get started by telling our readers a bit about yourself and your work?
Sure! My name is Jim Dirschberger, and I’m an Emmy nominated director and writer. I’m probably most well known as the Creator and Executive Producer of “Sanjay & Craig,” an animated series on Nickelodeon. I’ve produced over 100 short films, commercials, and music videos for Paramount Pictures, Vans, Sub Pop, and Adult Swim. I founded Wide Right Interactive in 2016 and began work on our debut game, Freedom Finger!
PS4B: On that note, Freedom Finger is on its way to the Nintendo Switch on September 27. How would you describe this to someone who’s never heard about it?
Freedom Finger is a music-driven, side-scrolling shooter starring Nolan North (Uncharted), John DiMaggio (Adventure Time/Futurama), and Sam Riegel (Critical Role)! It also features music from a wide variety of artists such as Red Fang, Aesop Rock, METZ, Power Trip, Com Truise, and many more. We’re releasing on PC and Nintendo Switch on 9/27!
PS4B: How long have you been working on Freedom Finger? Have there been any changes in its overall design and gameplay mechanics from the initial concept phase to the version we’ll soon get to play?
We started work in early 2017. The biggest change or refinement has been how the soundtrack affects gameplay. Freedom Finger is music-driven, so each stage has a unique song that drives things like enemy movements and attacks. This means the world around you is locked in sync to the music. As the beat increases, so do the enemies’ attacks. In turn, if things slow down, you might find yourself with a short cooldown period. Overall, we want the gameplay to feel like an extension of the music.
It’s a hard thing to describe, but it’s definitely the biggest “wow” moments we see when people start playing it. I think that, as well as the art and story, it helps us stand out from other shooters.
PS4B: On top of the 37 stages included in Freedom Finger, are you considering developing additional content for the game to be made available as DLC?
100% yes. We have some extras in the works as we speak. I can’t give away anything just yet, but we plan on supporting the game as long as we possibly can.
PS4B: And that’s all the time we have for today. Is there something else you’d like to add before we go?
We’ve worked really hard to make the game and its insane story as accessible as possible to all gamers. Whether you want to chill and enjoy the story or crank the difficulty for a really ridiculous challenge, we have tons of options. If you’ve never tried bullet hell or shmup type games, this is the one for you.
