The Padre Review - 2

In The Padre from Shotgun with Glitters and Feardemic, you will take on a survival-horror experience that will remind you of old-school games such as the Resident Evil series. You play as demon-fighting Padre Alexander, a priest who will explore each area, searching for clues and slaying monsters left and right. While the game’s look will certainly remind you of, say, Minecraft, the game’s T for Teen rating means you’re going to be playing a darker and more violent type of retro-infused game.

Padre Alexander is searching for his missing boss, a Cardinal. Unfortunately for Padre Alexander, the mansion he investigates is packed with the undead, ghosts, and more. Has the Cardinal been kidnapped or worse killed by the monsters? There is only one way to find that out: help the Padre vanquish evil, solve puzzles, search for clues, and find out what is going on! The mansion is a large location to explore, and you will find many secret passages, letters that might give you some insight into what is going on, and more. The game’s writing and the situations you’ll find yourself in will take this one more into the comedy-horror territory.

Unlike the survival horror games from back in the day, in The Padre, you can play with different camera angles as you play. You can use the L1 button to change the camera to a different angle so that you can have two options for playing this one. Thanks to this, you get the opportunity to see more of your surroundings. The game has some point and click gameplay mechanics, which is convenient for you when checking out items, flicking a switch to open something, or to solve a puzzle here and there.

There are quite a lot of things to collect in this game. Some doors are locked, and you will, of course, need a key to be able to explore any further. The mansion also has some mirrors, and these are connected to a puzzle as well. Speaking of these, you’re going to run into some clever puzzles that will leave you scratching your head, testing your puzzle skills. Your efforts will be rewarded as you find some weapons for you to use in your demon hunting ways, which is great considering that the Padre does not start with any weapons – but you will have some medicine!

The Padre Review - 5

The Padre is a fun survival horror style game that pays homage to classics such as the beloved and long-running Resident Evil series. It features great humor, solid voice acting, and an art style that grew on me, the more I played the game. The game is available on PlayStation 4 for $19.99 and is worth the price of admission. If you’re looking for a game that will remind you of Resident Evil, with a dash of Silent Hill and Alone in the Dark, then be sure to give this one a go!
