Ominous Press has a Kickstarter for Dread Gods, so I got in touch with Editor-in-Chief Ron Marz to talk a bit about the project. Come check it out!
PS4Blog: Good morning! Thank you for taking the time to do this interview. How are you doing?
I write comic books for a living, which is about the best job in the world, so I’m doing pretty great. Thanks for asking.
PS4B: After three successful campaigns, Ominous Press is back on Kickstarter with a new project: Dread Gods. What can you tell us about this one?
This is an oversized hardcover collection of the Dread Gods series that Tom Raney and I did with Ominous Press at IDW. Our pal Bart Sears created the concept. It’s about gods in a fantasy world who slowly discover they’re really monsters in a post-apocalyptic landscape. I also think it’s the best artwork of Tom Raney’s career. So this edition is the complete story, with a cover gallery including Tom, Bart, Neal Adams, Kenneth Rocafort and a lot of others, with about 70 pages of added content available only in this edition.
PS4B: You mentioned some extra pages of added content would be part of the oversized hardcover that is being crowdfunded. What will be included in these pages?
There’s a brand new, 10-page story by Tom Raney and I that’s exclusive to this hardcover, which we’re calling the Olympian Edition. The story picks up right where we left off, starting on the next chapter of our tale. And then there are more than 50 pages of design work and behind-the-scenes art from Tom and Bart. Process junkies are going to love it!
PS4B: Are there any signed items or perhaps original art pieces for collectors to pledge for on the Kickstarter?
We’re offering both! We have the single issues featuring the variant covers by Neal Adams, Kenneth Rocafort, Kevin Maguire, Cully Hamner, and more, all signed by me. We’ve also got a selection of Tom Raney’s original art pages from the series. And it’s possible there will be some original cover art added to the campaign.
PS4B: Will there be any stretch goals for this one if it goes over its main funding goal?
Definitely! If we can hit our funding goal, we have a series of stretch goals planned, including some original trading cards featuring the characters from the story.
PS4B: And that’s all the time we have for today. Once again, thank you for doing this interview. Would you like to add anything else?
Just thanks to everybody who has already pledged, as well as for everybody who shares the campaign or even has a look at it. Kickstarter is a wonderful tool to connect directly to your audience, and ‘I’m very appreciative of everyone who has supported us.
