[Beyond PlayStation] Knights of Pen and Paper +1 Deluxier Edition Review | PS4Blog.net
Knights of Pen and Paper +1 Deluxier Edition from Plug In Digital is a digital representation of the pen and paper RPG gaming sessions some of us used to enjoy back in the day. Learn more about it in our Knights of Pen and Paper +1 Deluxier Edition review!
You start your adventure by selecting two players to add to your party. You have characters such as Flowers, Paris, Granma, Little Brother, Ms. Goldberry, Mr. John, Nerd, and more, and each one can also be a different class. The classes available are Paladin, Warrior, Rogue, Mage, Druid, Cleric, and Witch, so you should see what each one has to offer, what stats and skills it brings to your table, so that you can create a balanced party. Why? Because a balanced party is a must if you have any intention of surviving the adventure! A party without a cleric to heal wounds, or without a warrior that can deal considerable damage, won’t be able to progress too far. You’ll be able to unlock more classes as you complete quests, so be ready!
The game does a nice job of setting up the whole “this is a bunch of people enjoying some fun roleplaying” by placing the table and the chairs with the Dungeon Master and the characters you get to control, and leaving them there at all times as the setting around it changes into the mystical adventure locations you would visit in, say a console RPG or JRPG, having the enemies, and eventually the bosses, join in on the fun as well. You will then take on turn-based battles where the basic rule is “kill everyone before they kill you.”
The better you do in battle, and the more battles you win, the more experience, gold and loot you will get. Experience is a must since you need it to level up your characters, and the higher your level the more powerful each character will be. Gold is also important, as is loot, because gold leads to being able to acquire items and gear to benefit your crew. This will, in turn, allow you to face and defeat more powerful enemies, which will reward you with more experience and even more gold, and that’s the cycle you will enter.
You can also purchase snacks to obtain timed bonus to the experience points you obtain or the gold you receive, or add some decorations to the room’s floors and walls, change the room’s door, change the dungeon master guiding you through your adventure, or even get a pet to sit by the table. Every single thing that you purchase will give you one type of boost to your party and its members, so be sure to save your gold so that you can what best suits your playing style and your needs.
You start with two characters, under your control, as well as one dungeon master taking care of things, but you can also make good use of your gold to purchase extra seats on the table to increase the size of your party. More characters on your party, and thus having the option to select some different classes to have a more diverse party, in order to maximize your attack, defense or healing skills, is a very good thing. Having more characters sitting at the table also makes for an even more fun game thanks to the quirky back and forth they have as they interact with each other, making fun at this or that.
The Blacksmith is a valuable ally, but before you can use him to power up your equipment, you’ll need to give it enough grindstones to level up. Gringdstones can be found as loot, but you can also purchase them at the in-game shops with your hard-earned gold. Be sure to never sell any grindstones you find, because leveling up the blacksmith to improve your gear is a must, especially if you want to complete later quests that require that your party is as powerful as possible!
So, why does this one have the +1 Deluxier Edition moniker? Because this version of the game includes some extra content on top of the main attraction! There are new dungeons to explore, new monsters to battle and extra deadly bosses to defeat. Because of this with your purchase you’re getting the definitive version of the game with a ton of content to enjoy.
Knights of Pen and Paper +1 Deluxier Edition on Nintendo Switch is a very fun RPG simulator that you should definitely check out. The way it sets up the adventure by being a digital representation of a pen and paper RPG dungeon crawling session is very clever, and there’s a ton of content to enjoy in this pixeltastic colorful release. If you’re a fan of turn-based RPGs in general, then you have to download this one today to play at home or on the go! I had a lot of fun with this game, so I hope that we soon get to play its sequel on the Nintendo Switch.
