[PS4Blog.net Interview] Jenn Sandercock On Edible Games | PS4Blog.net
When I learned about the Edible Games project that Jenn Sandercock was working on I decided to get in touch with her to talk about this bizarre, quirky and intriguing idea of hers: games in which you have to eat food to play!
PS4Blog: Hi! Thank you for taking the time to do this interview. Could you please get us started by introducing yourself to our readers and telling them a bit about yourself and your work?
My name is Jenn Sandercock, and I’m a game designer. I’ve been making games for almost ten years now. I’ve worked on big AAA titles like LA Noire and indie titles, like Thimbleweed Park. I love making games that emphasize friendship, curiosity, and challenge.
PS4B: We had a lot of fun reviewing Thimbleweed Park! And here you are today to talk about your Edible Games project. Your turn!
My edible games are all tabletop/real-world games where you have to eat food to be able to play them. If you don’t eat the games, you can’t play. There’s a lot of different ways you can play with your food, so I’m doing a series of games and exploring the medium. The games I’m creating cater to a range of baking abilities, from none to lots.
PS4B: So far you’ve worked on The Order of the Oven Mitt, Gingerbread Friends, J-Wobbler, Master Taster and, more recently, Patisserie Code. How many other games do you currently have under development?
I’m aiming to create a dozen games at the moment. I’ve got ten of them fully designed so far and half-baked ideas for the last two. I’ll be finalizing those two in the coming weeks.
PS4B: After play-testing the games at several events, including at GDC 2018, what’s the plan? How will you bring these games to the masses?
I’m going to put them all in a cookbook. Each chapter will be a different game and will have a section about how you make the game (the recipe) and then how you play the game (the rules). I’m going to Kickstarter to ask for help getting the funds to complete this book and make it a reality. I’ll be launching in June.
PS4B: And now it’s time for us to go. Is there something else you’d like to add before we end this?
Thanks for having me! Be sure to check out my page to learn more about these edible games!
