The Good Life from White Owls, the new studio from SWERY, is currently on Kickstarter trying to secure the funding needed to complete the game for its PlayStation 4 release. Come learn more about this project in our interview!

PS4Blog: Morning! Thank you for taking the time for this interview. Would you mind getting us started by introducing yourself to our readers and telling them a bit about yourself and your work?

Good morning. It’s 5 a.m. in Croatia right now! I’m SWERY, a game creator from Osaka, Japan. I started a new studio called White Owls in 2016. I’ve been in the game industry for 22 years, and I’ve worked on titles such as The Last Blade, EXTERMINATION, Spy Fiction, Deadly Premonition, and D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die. In 2010, Deadly Premonition earned a Guinness World Record, and ever since then, my fans have been supporting me as a creator who creates unique worlds with amazing stories.

PS4B: You’re currently running a Kickstarter campaign for The Good Life. How would you describe the game to someone who’s never heard about the project?

The Good Life is a debt repayment daily life RPG where you investigate a town as Naomi, a photographer from New York who’s come to a rural British town known as ‘the happiest town in the world.’ She’ll use her photography techniques to uncover the town’s secrets. Although the town may seem tranquil at first glance, it’s actually harboring a lot of secrets and surprising sides. Gradually, Naomi will find moving deeper and deeper toward the town’s mystical roots…

PS4B: How much has the project changed or evolved from when you did a crowdfunding campaign over at Fig and the current campaign on Kickstarter?

We made four big changes:

1) We got help from our partners so that we’ll be able to plan things and finish the game properly after the campaign ends.

2) We made the campaign’s initial goal a more realistic number.

3) We improved the graphics to make them closer to what the final quality will be.

4) We organized the game design so that it’s easier to understand what the game is.

PS4B: You’ve partnered with Limited Run Games to produce the Physical Collector’s Edition for The Good Life. How did this partnership come to be? What will be included in the Collector’s Edition?

I’m friends with Limited Run Games, so we promised to work together someday. This time, we went through several meetings until we could finally announce them as a partner. The truth is, they’ve actually been supporting us from the shadows ever since the Fig campaign!

PS4B: Have you considered bringing the game to the Nintendo Switch as well?

Honestly, we’re making preparations for that… but we need to hit the initial goal first. So please, everyone, help us reach our campaign goal!
