[PS4Blog.net Interview] iLLOGIKA On Subaeria

We’ll be working on a review for Subaeria, so I got in touch with David Fugere-Lamarre, CEO & Founder of indie team iLLOGIKA, to talk about the game’s development for its PlayStation 4 release later this month.

PS4Blog: Morning! Thank you for joining us today. Could you please get us started by telling our readers a bit about yourself and your work?

Thanks for your interest in Subaeria, and hello to all the readers of PS4Blog.net! We are a Montreal-based indie studio founded in 2009. We make games but also corporate interactive experiences, serious games, and experimental VR projects – we recently released a few prototypes to the public.

We took part on the development of many games such as Cuphead, Hitman Go, Lara Croft Go, the Disney Infinity AR app (called “Action!”) and the Assassin’s Creed Syndicate mobile app (London Gangs).

PS4B: Subaeria is making its way to PlayStation 4 later this month. How would you describe the game to someone who’s never heard about it?

Subaeria takes place in a subaquatic authoritarian world where you play as a young rebel called Styx out for her family revenge. You progress in this world solving puzzles by using your enemies and making them destroy each other. Each level is randomly generated so each time you play it’s a new challenge to discover!

PS4B: How long did it take the team to bring the game from initial concept to the version we’ll soon get to play? Where there any particular challenges or hurdles you had to overcome?

The whole development of the game took five years, and we had to face a few challenges, such as financing the project, balancing the teamwork with other projects, and some challenging features like the narrative multi-branching design, which had to be simplified.

PS4B: With the game now ready to go on PS4, what is the team currently working on?

We plan to start another IP after this one, and we’re currently working on new titles for a few clients. They are still under NDA, but we look forward to showing them as soon as possible!
