[PS4Blog.net Interview] Clever-Plays On Leap Of Fate

by EdEN, Owner

We’re playing Leap of Fate to bring you a review, so we got in touch with Clever-Plays to talk about the game’s development for PS4.

PS4Blog: Good afternoon! Glad you managed to join us for this PS4Blog.net interview. Would you mind introducing yourself to our readers and letting them know a bit about your work and role at Clever-Plays?

Hi there PS4Blog.net! I’m Mattieu Bégin, co-founder and game director at Clever-Plays, an independent game studio in Montreal, Canada. I’ve had over 10+ years of experience in the industry, 5 of which were spent at Ubisoft Montreal as a game designer and project manager. I started Clever-Plays back in 2013 because I wanted to see more quality, challenging games that anyone could play. In 2016, we successfully made Leap of Fate on PC and have since launched it on PS4 and mobile. Along with wife (co-founder and business manager), we work with a talented team of 6 to make our passions a reality. Currently we’re working on our next (secret!) project.

Something interesting about me is that I actually have a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences and Genetics… let that tell you that it’s never too late to follow your dream career!

PS4B: Leap of Fate is now available on PlayStation 4. How would you describe the game?

Leap of Fate is a furiously-paced cyberpunk roguelite about overcoming your fears and achieving your fate. Based in a version of New York City where magic is real, you can pick among 4 different technomages who each have their own distinct gameplay style and storyline. Levels are chosen through a pyramid of cards, revealing more of your fate as you defeat the levels.

This is a challenging game with quick and deadly combat, where there are more than a hundred different types of enemies and dying means you’ll have to restart from the beginning. With randomly generated levels, multiple skill trees, and more than 100 magical abilities, this is a game to keep players on their toes! The only permanent thing? Some upgrades and a sense of mystery about what’s really going on in the challenge grounds, the Crucible of Fates.

Leap Of Fate 1

PS4B: How long did it take the studio to take Leap of Fate from concept to prototype to the final PS4 version we get to play today?

About two years!

PS4B: What are some of the improvements for the game when played on a PS4 Pro?

The game’s quality is consistent throughout the platforms, so there won’t be any difference when played on the PS4 Pro.

Leap Of Fate 2

PS4B: With the game out on PS4, is the team considering developing any additional content as either free or paid DLC?

We don’t have any plans for Leap of Fate DLC at the moment — we’re all extremely satisfied with how it has turned out. We’re currently working on our next game, which you can trust will have the same level of challenge and excitement as Leap of Fate. Keep an eye out on our social media accounts for updates as they come!

That being said, who knows down the line what will happen?

Leap Of Fate 4

PS4B: And now it is time for us to go. Is there anything else you’d like to add?

I encourage players who like a solid test of their skills, are interested in a mature and dark cyberpunk atmosphere, and enjoy compelling characters to try out Leap of Fate. We want more people to enjoy the roguelite genre with all its meta progression, abilities, and characters to unlock and discover.

Huge thanks to PS4blog.net for the feature and for anyone interested in our future projects, you can follow us on Twitter, Facebook or our blog!
