Skylar & Plux: Adventure on Clover Island is a colorful 3D action Platformer that fans of the Ratchet & Clank and Jak and Daxter series are going to dig. Skylar Lynxe and Plux Owlsley are part of the heroic duo that will prevent the CRT from taking over their homeland and turning it into a wasteland. Want to learn more? Then read our Skylar & Plux: Adventure on Clover Island review!

Skylar is an amnesiac, so she doesn’t remember anything before coming to Clover Island. She discovers the island is under siege and wants to help to make things right. The inhabitants of Clover Island welcome Skylar and kindly ask her to make Clover Island her home. Thanks to this, Skylar is able to get right to working on saving the island which is now her home. As for Plux? He’s a is a resourceful white bird and her trusty sidekick who is ready to aid in this new quest for the greater good.

During their adventure, you will traverse across four different worlds with many levels that will take you across lush tropical beaches, volcanic mountains, snowy mountain tops, and even the desert! Each world also has boss battles for you to take on. You’ll need to learn their movement and attack patterns just like in the good old days, so that you can show them who’s really the boss!

There are also gadgets to collect during your time on Clover Island. The first one is the awesome jetpack, which you can later upgrade, as well as some other gadgets that will make your life easier. For example, say you spot a pink glow in the distance. That glow? It’s important and leads the way to something cool! Do you need a magnetic glove? OR maybe a time orb? Oh, what is the Time Orb, you ask? You’re gonna love it… but I don’t want to spoil that awesome surprise!

Backtracking is a necessity as you will need to save the Loa’s who have been caged, and who sorta work as the larger collectibles in the game. If you have 100 fire crystals, you’ll be able to open a cage, and since there are 51 Loa to save, you’re going to need a lot of crystals! Some of the Loa can’t be reached from the start so you’ll need to find the correct gadget for the job.

The game is a bit on the short side and will probably take you around 5-7 hours to complete, but I did like this adventure and see the potential for sequels in the future. It’s a fun and short action platformer, and as a fan of the genre, I say the more, the better! I definitely want to see a full comeback of the 3D action platformer, and so far it seems we are definitely getting there!

Skylar and Plux: Adventure on Clover Island is a fun release. The only complain I have is that there was some minor lag when you respawn, but that’s probably something that the team can take care of with a patch. The game’s controls are solid, the graphics are colorful and look great on PS4 and the music is pretty awesome. Unfortunately, the game has no Platinum trophy, but at least it’s a fun and easy to accomplish 100%, with a mix of objetives for collectibles and for story progression. In the end, is the game worth your time and money? Definitely, especially if you’re a fan of the beloved 3D action platformer.
