[PS4Blog.net Interview] Alex Rose On Super Rude Bear Resurrection
Super Rude Bear Resurrection is coming to PlayStation 4 on May 2nd, so we got in touch with Alex Rose to talk about the game’s development for Sony’s home console.
PS4Blog: Hi Alex! Good to have you with us at PS4blog.net. Care to present yourself to our readers?
Hi! I’m Alex Rose. I’m a serial game jammer from the UK. I started out by competing in game jams, then after I won a couple I got funded by Sony and made one into a full game!
PS4B: Super Rude Bear Resurrection is getting ready for its May 2 release. How would you describe the game?
Super ridiculously hardcore platformer that anyone can beat! Every time you die, your corpses stay behind, boulders slow down, traps burst, etc. etc., so the game auto balances to a level of difficulty you’re comfortable with.
PS4B: How long did it take you to complete the game’s development? Any hurdles you had to overcome?
Three and a half years! Yeah, absolutely tones of hurdles, I wouldn’t even know where to begin! I’m self-published, so I had to do all the PlayStation port alone (which was actually not that bad), solve every little bug, figure out how to rewrite Unity3D, so it does 2D better, and so on.
PS4B: Is there any exclusive content in the PlayStation 4 version of the game?
Nah, the versions are the same, except I plan to add the game live streaming library to the PS4 version, so it’ll be able to do some YouTube features that aren’t in the PC version.
PS4B: How long will it take someone to play everything the game has to offer?
Depends on how good you are! I have played obsessively and can beat the majority of the game without dying, takes me about 2 hours to play all the core and bonuses levels. Most people.. probably upwards of 12 hours. But to get a platinum trophy, I dunno.. we’re talking hundreds of hours, it’s insane. You have to beat every level without dying, which is ridiculously hard. I 106%ed Meat Boy the month it came out but I’ve been playing this for years, and I made it, and I still have to beat one more level before I can get the Platinum trophy.
PS4B: Now that the game has been completed, what is next for you?
I actually got the UK Games Fund through for my next game, going to be making Hyper Rude Bear Requiem. I make a lot of Rude Bear games – it won’t be a platformer though. I’ll show more in a few months when the prototype’s ready.
PS4B: And now it is time to go. Would you like to add anything else?
Good luck, you might need it! Hahaha
