It’s no secret that a Ratchet & Clank movie has been in the works for quite some time. They have a great voice cast including Paul Giamatti, John Goodman, Bella Thorne, Rosario Dawson and Sylvester Stallone. It’s set for release next April.
Now we have a trailer for the new game based on the movie… which was based on the game!
When I heard they were rebooting the Ratchet & Clank series I wasn’t sure if were getting a remaster of the original or what it would look like. I am super pleased with the trailer as it seems to be breaking new ground with the flair that Insomniac is known for. Did you see the weapon (the aptly named Pixelizer) that turns bad guys into 8-bit blocks?
We knew early on that we didn’t want to just up-res Ratchet & Clank for PS2. We started out thinking of Ratchet & Clank on PS4 as a “re-imagining” of the 2002 original, revised to tie in with the deeper version of Ratchet’s origin story (as seen in the film). We envisioned a curated Ratchet & Clank experience that borrowed from the spirit of the classic PS2 games while infusing some of the best elements from the Ratchet & Clank Future games.
We ended up with a new game, with elements based on the original — but now with modern controls, several new planets, new and updated gameplay segments, all-new Clank gameplay, all new boss fights, new flight sequences, and more… all constructed to take advantage of the graphical prowess of PS4. Throw in James Arnold Taylor as Ratchet, and you have a new beginning.
As a long time fan of the series I’m excited to see this new direction that will surely revitalize the series.
If you pre-order now you will get access to the exclusive Bouncer Weapon from Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando.
Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus was released in late 2013 as a way to end the R&C Future Trilogy and I liked it quite a bit.
