Puddle started as a student project a few years ago, and tt was released on PlayStation systems back in 2012, finally arriving to PS4 this year. If you own a copy for either the PS3 or Vita… surprise! You should be getting this thanks to cross-buy.
As I said before, this is a physics-based puzzler, and the goal is to get your liquid to the end of a course without losing much of it any along the way. You can use the controller to tilt the screen left and right to move the liquid, and as you tilt the screen, it affects the momentum of the liquid and helps you to get past certain obstacles or hazards. You can also do this by using L2 and R2 or with the touch pad on the PS4 controller. As for me, I found that the L2 and R2 L2 were the most comfortable to play with.
When you complete a level, it will grade you an award a Gold, Silver, Bronze, or no metal, depending on your performance. It takes into effect how long it took you to beat the level and how much liquid you finished with, and finding the right style to get gold medals was definitely tricky, since you needed to trade some time to ensure you keep more liquid available to you. It’s a good system that makes you think about the right strategy for each level.
The game has a great mix of stages that include laboratories, the human body (in a great x-ray filter view), gardens and the sewers among some of the better levels. The liquid actually looks and moves how you would expect liquid to move, and all of the levels have a unique look and visual style which keeps everything fresh. The music and sound match the game and the visual style, and as the game tells its story through the puzzles, the sound does a great job in helping to set the tone.
The game has a 12 trophies (1 Gold, 3 Silver, and 8 Bronzes). Since there is only 1 trophy for completing the game, most require doing some difficult tasks in the levels, and tt will take a bit of patience to unlock all of them.
Overall the game is a great puzzler that is worth your time and energy. Most of the levels make sense, but some require more time and patience to make it to the end. You will be beating your head against the wall on occasion, but any good puzzler should make you do that every once in a while. Go play this one right now.
