[PS4] The Walking Dead: A New Frontier – Above The Law Review
After a long wait, Telltale Game’s The Walking Dead – A New Frontier is back with a new episode! With everything that happened during the double feature at the start of the season, not to mention the major cliffhanger on which the second episode ended, it is time to check on the group in Above The Law. Remember that once you click after the break, you’re in major spoiler territory. Are you ready? Then read our Above The Law review!
Things kick-off for this episode with a flashback sequence that gives us a glimpse at one of the days when Javi and Kate are out on the streets trying to scavenge some supplies during the “early days” of the outbreak. David has been gone for several months now, and Kate is growing restless. She thinks that staying at the house is too risky since they have to leave the kids alone while they search for anything they can use to survive. After being caught by surprise by a friend of Gabe who has turned, the pair returns home to eventually decide it is time to leave. This flashback sequence has a couple of moments that impact some of the conversations that happen during the next couple of story sequences in the “present,” so be sure to pay attention!
We’re then taken back to where part 2 of Ties That Bind ended, seeing David is alive and well and that he seems to be leading the New Frontier. After Kate is taken to the hospital to treat her wounds, Javi learns that David is one of the four leaders of the New Frontier. Javi’s group is hesitant about staying, but it turns out that David alone can’t make the call about them getting a chance to stay in the first place.
That’s all I can say about the story for the third episode of the third season without completing spoiling every twist and turn you’ll get to experience. Rest assured that this is a solid episode that ties several loose ends from the first two episodes while setting things up for the next two. All I can say is that, after playing the first two seasons, for me, Clementine is still the strongest character you get to play as in this new season, but that Javi and the rest are do offer a good way for players new to the series to join in on the fun.
Above The Law is a solid third episode for a strong season, and I can’t wait to see where Telltale Games takes the series for the final two episodes of the series. I’m having a great time, and I can’t wait to try the next episode. Season 1 might still be my favorite, but Season 3 is definitely getting there.
