[PS4Blog.net Interview] Slain: Back From Hell
We had a lot of fun reviewing Slain: Back from Hell, so we got in touch with the team to talk a bit more about the game and it’s development for the PlayStation 4.
PS4Blog: Hi! Thank you for joining us at PS4blog.net, Could you please get us going by letting our readers know a bit about yourself and your work?
Hello yourself! We’re Christian Bliss and Thomas Jenns, respectively the designer and programmer on Slain. Unfortunately, the main vision keeper of the team, the super-talented artist Andrew Gilmour is knee-deep working on the Xbox One version, but he sends his regards.
PS4B: Slain: Back from Hell is now available on PlayStation 4. It’s been a long road from the Kickstarter campaign up to a PS console release! How would you describe the game to someone who has never played it?
Christian Bliss: The most heavy metal, blood-soaked, gut-wrenching, thumb-breaking side-on melee combat platformer you’ll ever play! It’s got elemental weapons, brutal magical mana attacks, relentless enemies both living and dead, many, many nasty spiky traps and things that squash the main character Bathoryn flat, some positively “Shakespearean” dialogue, a tragic story of doomed heroism, hardcore headbanging, crunching power chords on gothic guitars, soul-stirring sound effects and some really very nice pixel art that brings the whole damn thing together.
PS4B: How big did the game end up being? How long will it take someone to play the whole thing?
Thomas Jenns: Normal humans usually take about six hours, hardcore players might manage about four, but the insane world record speed run is less than an hour! Be warned, though, that guy is crazy.
PS4B: Is it possible to get all trophies in a single run or are multiple runs the way to go?
Thomas Jenns: Never in a million years would you be able to get all the Trophies in one go. They are completely harsh in nature, often involving killing a boss without taking any damage. All are possible, though!
PS4B: Are you considering any DLC for Slain?
Christian Bliss: Possibly – there are rumors the Hag has a precious cargo that needs escorting through the fabled and sinister Petra Forest…
PS4B: And now we have to go. Would you like to add something else?
Christian Bliss: Watch this space for Slain in Space!
